Puneites – Know your Mula-Mutha

Mutha River
This 10-km-long river has supplied water to human settlements in this area as early as the Stone Age. The breach of Khadakwasla Dam, built on this river, caused the Panshet floods of 1961.

Mula River
A 22-km-long river in Pune, the Mula flows through the Western Ghats to meet with the Mutha and Bhima rivers before emptying into the Bay of Bengal. Due to pollution and unsustainable construction, the river has been severely contaminated and has become prone to flooding.
